＜Nickel Cobalt Chromium Aluminum Yttrium (NiCoCrAlY) Coating＞
Superalloy components subjected to hot corrosion environments are commonly protected by metallic coatings to maintain their usability for longer durations. To an increasing extent, the coatings are also use as bond coats in thermal barrier coating (TBC) systems. The metallic coatings is typically of the MCrAlY type (M: Ni and/orCo), applied by low-pressure plasma spray (LPPS), electron beam physical vapor deposition (EB-PVD) diffusion process, high velocity oxygen fuel (HVOF) and atmosphere plasma spray (APS). All of them form stable alumina scales in TBC systems and ensure to protect against oxidation and hot corrosion. Nickel Cobalt Chromium Aluminum Yttrium (NiCoCrAlY) coating is widely used for oxidation and corrosion resistant applications at temperatures up to 980 °C (1800°F). HVOF sprayed NiCrAlY alloys are known for their excellent resistance to oxidation and hot corrosion. Plasma sprayed NiCoCrAlY utilized as a protective barrier coating to hot corrosion environments. Moreover, the coating can also be used as a bond coat for thermal barrier coating (TBC) applications. The addition of aluminum and cobalt will enhance the self-bonding properties of coatings to the substrates. Typical nickel-chromium alloys have lower bonding issue due to higher residual stresses within the coatings. Aluminum can be added to improve the high temperature oxidation resistance of the coatings. Yttria reacts with the aluminum during spraying to promote the formation of a ductile complex ceramic oxide, Al2O3-Y2O3, which can promote the high temperature cohesive strength of the coating.
