＜Resistance to High Temperature Corrosion＞
The demand of decreasing the carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuels has increased the use of biomass and waste as a partial replacement for coal in co-combustion boilers. Biomass boilers can utilize different kinds of fuels, such as wood, forest residues, recycled wood, and agricultural crops. For different boilers, operating conditions such as temperature, flue gas composition and fly ash depend on the fuels and process parameters. The burning of some fuels, such as biomass and solid recovered fuel, will lead to a hard condition and may result to fouling, slagging, and high temperature corrosion to the metallic heat exchanger system. Corrosion will damage and cause tube leakage, leading to severe problems and raise the operation cost due to unplanned plant shutdowns, frequent maintenance, reduced availability of the plant and shortened lifetime of the boiler tubing. Moreover, in order to improve the efficiency of electricity and heat generation, steam temperature is required to increase, therefore, that leads to more severe corrosion problems especially in superheated areas.
Thermal sprayed nickel- and iron-based coating materials were adopted in solving these issues by the properties of resistant to high temperature corrosion and erosion protection especially in harsh boiler conditions.
